Hi, my name is Marco, i'm 22 and i'm from Italy.
I'll come in Tromso, Lyngen and surrounding with one friend between 28 March and 11 April this year. Our target are steep alpinistic winter ascents of peaks. we want to make work a lot our ice axes!
We will stay for 15 days, sleeping in tent, being self-sufficient but without a mean of transport as we arrive in Troms by plane. We don't have fixed plans, but we'd like to move fast to Lyngen and moving around quite a lot, according with trasportation opportunities and all the stuff that we bring back.
We're intrested in find some local alpinists for sharing informations and ideas, and maybe to do some ascents together.
Is there some active winter climber!? I'm looking forward to get in contact with some locals
Enjoy the winter!
Marco
Hi
You can get there by buss: http://www.tromskortet.no/LinkClick.aspx?fileticket=B6jGn8We3zo%3d&tabid...
- that is from tromsø city center (prostneset) to lyngseidet.
Not so many bussen in lyngen though I think, better to rent a car if you want to move around a lot. Send a request to https://www.rent-a-wreck.no/eng/?car-rental=tromso&request=yes , might be cheaper
Cheers
Tanks JJ for jour answer.
We have not the budget for the car, that's why we are thinking to public transports.
I found some timetables, and there should be, at least once per day, busses to Lyngen and along the main routes (to Furuflaten, Nordkjosbotn, Koppangen, Russelv, Fornes...).
Do you think hitchhiking can work?
What about the tourist cabins marked on the map (Trollhytta, Jaegervasshytta, Fastdalshytta, Gjerdvassbu, Steindalshytta, etc. in Lyngen, and other ones in Stuoranjarga)? Are they always open and free?
Jægervasshytta, very close to the Jægervasstindan mountain range, and the cabins on Stouranjarga (Trollvassbu, Skarvassbu, Nonsbu and Blåkollkoia) are all owned by Troms Turlag. you need to rent a key. They all cost NOK 240 per night if you are not a member. more at http://www.turistforeningen.no/english/
The cabins owned by DNT are very few, expecially in Lyngen. Do you know anything about the other cabins (there are many ones marked in the Turkart Lygenhalvøya map)??
Only 2 weeks before departing. Do anyone can answer my last question about cabins??
Is there an active ice climbing community for meet someone during our trip!?
